چکیده

Reports from this laboratory have described the formation of palmitoleic and oleic acids from their saturated counterparts by enzyme systems of yeast (2, 3). For introducing a double bond into the 9,lO position of the aliphatic chain, the desaturating enzymes, acting on the coenzyme A derivatives of the fatty acids, require reduced triphosphopyridine nucleotide, and molecular oxygen as hydrogen acceptor. Extending these studies to a multiply unsaturated system, we have now investigated the biosynthesis of linoleic acid. This paper deals with the role of oleic acid as a precursor for linoleic acid and with the nature of the processes which introduce the second double bond of the diolefine system. Torulopsis utilis, a lipid-rich yeast known to contain large amounts of linoleate (4), has been found to form this acid efficiently from oleate.

O-16: Metabolism of Exogenous Fatty Acids, Fatty Acid-Mediated Cholesterol Efflux, PKA and PKC Pathways in Boar Sperm Acrosome Reaction

Background: For understanding the roles of fatty acids on the induction of acrosome reaction which occurs under association of cholesterol efflux and PKA or PKC pathways in boar spermatozoa, metabolic fate of alone and combined radiolabeled 14C-oleic acid and 3H-linoleic acid incorporated in the sperm was compared, and behavior of cholesterol and effects of PKA and PKC inhibitors upon fatty aci...

Monosomic Analysis of Fatty Acid Composition in Embryo Lipids of ZEA MAYS L.

The effects of monosomy of specific chromosomes on the fatty acid composition of maize embryos were studied. A novel technique was developed to obtain fatty acid profiles of single embryos without reducing the viability of the sampled kernels. Monosomic 2 embryos had significantly more oleic acid and significantly less linoleic acid than diploid control embryos. Since the conversion of oleic ac...

Effects of Almond Genotype and Growing Location on Oil Percentage and Fatty Acid Composition of its Seeds

Almond oil is used in many cosmetic products as a snack, in confectionery (marzipan, "turrón", nougat), food products (almond milk, ice cream, chocolate), culinary recipes and also cosmetic base. For surveying the effects of almond genotype and growing location on oil percentage of oil seed content and fatty acid of almond, seeds of 6 almond cultivars: Ferragnes, Tuono, Azar, Sahand, Nonpareil ...

Assessment of Fatty Acids and Phenolic Content of some Citrullus colocynthis Accessions seeds from Iran.

Bitter melon (Colocynth) is a species of herbs, annual medicinal plant of family Cucurbitaceae which are mainly grown in warm regions of Iran. Fatty acids of the seeds of this plant are considered as important materials, medicinally. In this study, essential fatty acids of seed collected from nine different regions of Iran were evaluated. The composition of fatty acids such as oleic, linoleic, ...

Inhibition of enzyme activities by 12-keto oleic acid.

The effect of the long chain keto acid, which is one of the secondary products from oxidative deteriolation of lipids, on the enzyme activity was investigated in vitro. Cholinesterase and succinate dehydrogenase were inhibited more effectively by 12-keto oleic acid than by linoleic acid, whereas the inhibition of trypsin by linoleic acid was greater than that caused by 12-keto oleic acid. This ...
